OSHA 24-Hour HAZWOPER Training

Our OSHA Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) 24-Hour Training course is designed to satisfy OSHA 24-Hour HAZWOPER training requirements for workers involved in hazardous waste and emergency operations, in compliance with 29 CFR 1910.120(e) and 29 CFR 1926.65(e). OSHA standards require employees to complete this training prior to entering or beginning work on an uncontrolled hazardous waste site.

Course Overview

The OSHA 24-Hour HAZWOPER Training prepares workers to recognize and avoid common risks when exposed to hazardous materials (HazMat) on hazardous worksites. Students will learn about:

  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  • Chemical safety
  • Decontamination procedures
  • HazMat site emergencies
  • Confined space safety
  • And more

Who Should Enroll?

This course is intended for workers unlikely to experience routine high-risk exposures, such as those who are only occasionally on a hazardous waste site or work in proximity to hazardous materials where permissible exposure limits (PELs) are not exceeded. Typical positions requiring this training include:

  • HazMat technicians and specialists
  • HazMat supervisors
  • On-scene incident commanders
  • Hazardous waste managers and supervisors

Managers and supervisors who normally require the OSHA 40-Hour HAZWOPER Training can use this 24-Hour certification to meet OSHA requirements only if they manage or supervise workers who only require OSHA 24-Hour HAZWOPER Training. These managers and supervisors must also complete eight hours of specialized OSHA HAZWOPER 8-Hour Supervisor training outside the scope of this 24-Hour course.

Upon completing the OSHA 24 Hour HAZWOPER Training, learners will be able to:
  • Fully understand OSHA HAZWOPER general industry and construction regulations and requirements related to general site workers.
  • Understand the importance of an effective HAZWOPER Site Safety and Health Program.
  • Explain the activities involved in site characterization.
  • Discuss basic toxicology principles and how they relate to chemical hazards and exposure.
  • Identify potentially hazardous situations involving toxic and hazardous substances, such as corrosives, solvents, oxidizers, and reactive chemicals.
  • Understand the uses of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and how to identify and select the correct PPE for a particular Hazmat worksite.
  • Explain the principles of decontamination, including levels of decontamination and their methods.
  • Understand the components of an effective Medical Surveillance Program.
  • Recognize confined spaces and understand the hazards of performing work operations in such spaces.
  • Recognize the air monitoring and detection tools available to hazardous waste site workers.
  • Understand the various considerations of an environmental emergency response and the training and actions needed for personnel safety and the safety of others.
